Overview

Travelling to a beautiful place to experience local food culture and meet inspiring people – what could be better? This is exactly what chef Liezie Mulder-Färbinger from Île de Païn and her travel-guru sister Thelma Schempers are offering a small group of foodie travellers when they join them on a delicious adventure in Tuscany.

 

“Tuscany is one of those places that everyone dreams of,” says Thelma. “It is steeped in history with a unique and special culinary culture, boundless natural beauty, exceptional food and wine, and spellbinding architecture. I discovered the region when I walked the Via Francigena in May last year and fell in love with the laidback atmosphere, long summer lunches and wonderful people. I couldn’t wait to come back.”

 

This and many similar travel experiences have inspired Thelma and talented chef sister Liezie to start sharing their love of food and travel with a small troupe of food enthusiasts, one trip at a time. If you join their Tuscan food adventure you will be staying in a private villa whilst exploring the beautiful countryside and meeting up with some of the region’s most exciting food growers and artisanal producers.

 

“Thelma and I have travelled together before and share a love for food, exploration, art and all things beautiful. We have combined our talents to create a unique food travel experience that will lift people’s spirits and allow them to encounter a side of Tuscany that would be difficult to discover by themselves. The trip combines luxury and authenticity for a truly memorable experience,” says chef Liezie.

 

You can now book to join the passionate pair for seven full days wandering through the romantic old towns of Tuscany, meet friendly locals and experience Italian culture and history through the lens of real, honest-to-goodness Tuscan food. Spend your days discovering the unexplored countryside visiting local artisans, farmers, cheesemakers and butchers. Cook together, walk part of the Via Francigena, kick back and tuck into long, leisurely lunches and convivial picnics, and visit a local Michelin-star restaurant to top it all off. Afternoons are for resting and relaxing around the pool at the villa among olive groves and lavender hedges, or exploring on your own.

TOUR SCHEDULE OF  29 SEPTEMBER – 5 OCTOBER ’19:

Sunday 29 September (Day One)

Welcome to Tuscany! You will be picked up from Pisa airport on Sunday afternoon and taken to the beautiful villa where you can unpack and settle in for the week. Enjoy sundowners and an informal dinner and get to know each other.

Monday 30 September (Day Two)

After a delicious breakfast the group heads off to hunt for truffles – dogs and all! You will indulge in a delicious truffle lunch after the morning adventure. This afternoon you can put your feet up and relax at the villa and soak up the last rays of sunshine at the pool before heading out to dinner at a local restaurant.

Tuesday 1 October (Day Three)

The food escapades continue after breakfast as the group heads out to the beautiful medieval town of Certaldo for a market visit and cooking class with Giuseppina. In the evening you’ll visit the small village of Montaione where you’ll meet up with local friends in the town square for aperitivo. Who knows where this will lead for the remainder of the evening…?

Wednesday 2 October (Day Four)

Let your mind wander off to the middle ages, breathe in and smell the countryside of Tuscany and imagine being a pilgrim on the Via Francigena as you walk the stretch between Gambassi and San Gimignano. Lunch awaits under the trees where you can relax and enjoy some cold wine and prosecco. In the afternoon you can rest  your weary legs, book a massage or explore the garden and relax at the villa. Before heading out to Ghizzano for a pasta feast at a local nonna’s house, you’ll taste your way through some Tuscan wines at the villa.

Thursday 3 October (Day Five)

This morning you’ll visit a young family who started farming only recently and pride themselves on their sought-after goats milk cheese. For lunch you will be treated to a tasting of goats cheese, charcuterie and bread from the farm. You don’t need much more than this to enjoy this slow food movement at its best!

You are free to relax at the villa this last afternoon and enjoy the beautiful surroundings before heading off to San Gimignano which is one of the best-preserved of the Middle Age towns. Grab your wallet for some seriously good shopping here! This evening, join back up for dinner at Cum Quibus, a restaurant that boasts a coveted Michelin star.

Friday 4 October (Day 6)

After  a light breakfast overlooking the rolling hills of Tuscany, you will make our way to farmer Parisi and his family for a tasting of the best farm-to-table food in the area. The rest of the afternoon will be spent preparing for an interactive cooking class with Chef Liezie, where you’ll cook up a storm and enjoy a real Tuscan-style dinner at the end.

Saturday 5 October (Day 7)

One last splurge for breakfast to celebrate and share a few more laughs and stories. Mid-morning you will be transported back to Pisa airport or your hotel (approximately 1 hour’s drive), making your way back home with extraordinary experiences and memories that will last a lifetime!
