Pop-Up Mussel & Oyster Feast in Oceanside Factory

The portside town of Saldanha on the West Coast is slowly but surely blossoming into an unlikely, yet wholly enthralling, culinary destination. Passionate locals Mart-Mari Wicht, Kyle Dods and Alexi Silverman recently launched the first of a series of curated weekend experiences that invite visitors to experience the bay’s hidden gems. Now Kyle is throwing open the doors to King Solomon’s Factory to host a long-table pop-up mussel & oyster feast paired with local wines and plenty of MCC.

The pop-up mussel & oyster feast features on the weekend-long itinerary of The Saldanha Experience that runs from 19 – 20 October but may be booked as a stand-alone foodie encounter as well.

Here’s why this experience should get you very, very excited. First off, King Solomon’s Factory is a real, honest-to-goodness working oyster packing facility that is literally built over the water. As in, there is still plenty of packing and shipping action that occurs here on a regular basis. Secondly, 100% of the mussels and 90% of the oysters you’ll eat anywhere in sunny South Africa originated in Saldanha. This is where the good stuff is from.

Now, throw in the exceptional talents of chef Kyle Dods, and you have all the makings of a deep dive into seafood bliss. Mussels. Oysters. Wine. Bubbles. Ocean view. We don’t think we need to say any more than that.
