There are few better ways to kick off a summer bash than ice-cold watermelon shooters served in edible shot glasses. A little bit naughty but with some redeeming nutritious goodness, these little suckers pack a real taste punch.
The epitome of height-of-summer goodness, watermelon is the quintessential warm-weather antidote with some proper health credentials. No wonder Egyptians placed watermelons in the burial tombs of kings to nourish them in the afterlife.
Although the juicy cells release 92 percent water when you bite into it, every bite also contains significant levels of vitamins A, B6 and C , a decent dose of cancer-fighting antioxidants and lots of lypcopene to boot.
Best of all, these watermelon shooters can be made ahead of time and kept in the fridge ready for your celebration. Just the perfect little bite-and-drink in one to welcome guests and get the party started.
HOW TO MAKE THESE DELICIOUS WATERMELON SHOOTERS
- Cut thick slices of watermelon – about 2.5 centimeters wide.
- Remove the rind, divide each slice into squares of 2.5 cm x 2.5 cm and use a melon baller to create a hollow to contain the spirits.
- Refrigerate until ready to use.
- When you are ready to serve pour half a tot of chilled vodka in each hollow and finish off with a basil leaf. Pop the watermelon shooter whole into your mouth and revel in the taste explosion.
If fruit-infused drinks are your thing you will go mad for the Moscow Mule bursting with Vit C goodness. Follow the link for the recipe.
